Every Piece of Art Still Amazes Me!
Rock Ledge came about because you never really know what someone else has experienced. Not unless they tell you. And they don't usually just 'offer that up' without being asked. And where do you get the right words to ask? What can you say to encourage someone enough to share things openly and freely. It's tough. Unless you're a mom, then it's very easy. You just ask. It's your right.
I spent many summers at Rockledge. My cousin Jessamyn was often there. This painting contains so many memories of those days. This painting captures the essence of those summers. It was my way of telling my mother about those experiences.
My biggest artistic influences were my great uncle and my cousin Christine. My great uncle worked on a Clay medallion sculpture portrait of me. My cousin Christine showed me how to shade. The sun coming through the window on a candlestick. She said to look at the candlestick us if it was a photograph negative. That made sense to me.
I never really did decide that I wanted to be an artist I just was.
The advice I would give to other artists. Inspire each other. Find artists that fit and can carry each other along with positive feed back. That is what will keep you creating, painting and drawing.
